2005 Euro Smart Car fortwo for $15,400
This is an imported European Smart Car fortwo Passion coupe in excellent (like-new) condition. It is black with silver Tridon and has a 698cc 3-cylinder turbo gasoline Mercedes engine with automatic transmission. This car has had only one owner and has less than 450 miles on the odometer. Only 1,026 of the European Smart Cars were imported to the USA. This car was imported in late 2006 by G&K Auto Conversions as a new car.
The European turbo gasoline Smart Car can achieve from 40 to 60 mpg depending on speed and driving style. It can achieve a 10+ mpg improvement in fuel economy over the USA Smart Car.
This Passion coupe has a panoramic glass roof covered by removable headliner panels. It also has a factory-installed, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifter which is a feature rarely found on the Passion model of Smart Car. It has the standard floor-mounted shifter as well. It also has power mirrors - another feature seldom found on the imported Euro model of the fortwo.
The European smart car has a 6-speed automatic transmission that can be toggled to manual mode (tiptronic-style) with the push of a button on the shifter. The Smart automatic transmission is of a type sometimes called a "manu-matic" transmission or "automated manual" transmission. Internally, the transmission uses a clutch, but the car's computer shifts the gears for you and engages and releases the clutch for you so there is no clutch pedal to be pressed. This style of transmission reduces vehicle weight and increases fuel economy. It is the same type of transmission used on the USA version of the Smart Car except that the Euro version has six gears instead of the five gears used in the USA model.

You may obtain service for this car at the local Mercedes dealership or from the Green Car Company in Seattle. Other shops may also have training for working on European Smart Cars. Many replacement parts are available directly from Mercedes. Other replacement parts may be imported from Canada since Canada has many more European Smart Cars on the road.
Each of the 1,026 imported Smart Cars were modified to meet EPA and DOT regulations by G&K Automotive Conversion of California. This conversion makes the car street legal and insurable in the US. All US states except for ME, MA, RI, VT, NY are willing to title this car. G&K covers all safety components of the fortwo for a period of five years from date of purchase. G&K also covers the emissions system for a period of eight years from date of purchase. For this car, the date of purchase is July 2009.
This car currently has no bumper-to-bumper or power train warranty for features not covered by G&K Automotive Conversion. However, a five (5) year, 50,000 mile comprehensive warranty is available from Interstate (INDS) for $1,500. This warranty may be transferred to a subsequent owner for $50. If you would like this warranty, I will purchase it for the car and transfer it to you for an additional $1,550. Note: This is not an extended warranty; it is a new-car warranty. INDS is the same company which provides coverage programs for the redesigned 2008-2009 USA fortwos.
This 5-year warranty product is called the "HiRoad Classic Tech+" Warranty. It covers the following: basic powertrain coverage for the Engine, Turbo/Supercharger, Transmission (Automatic or Standard), Drive Axles, Seals and Gaskets (when needed to make covered repairs), Steering, Basic Electrical, Towing, Rental Car Coverage and Travel reimbursement, Air Conditioning and High-Tech Electronics, Brakes, Anti-lock brakes (ABS), Front & Rear Suspension, Cooling, and Water Pump.
Another (cheaper) warranty option is to purchase a three-year, 50,000 mile power-train only warranty available from Nationwide Auto Group for $389. This warranty would cover only the power-train.
Finally, you have the option of buying the car without a warranty (apart from the G&K coverage).
The Green Car Company is asking $16,999 (includes 2-year powertrain-only warranty). asmartcar.com is asking $22,900 (includes 5-year warranty from INDS).
By comparsion, the price for my Smart Car without additional warranty: $15,400
