That's nothing. Automotive News (Aug. 4th ed.) reports that some Toyota dealers are calling up Prius owners, buying back their used cars at cost, marking them up, and then selling them at higher than normal prices. AN speculates that those dealers don't have any new Priuses on site, so they mark these used cars up and potential buyers can't compare new and used prices if they didn't already know what they should be (AN figures that if there were new cars next to the jacked up used cars, what fool would decide to pay more for a used one when he could see the lower price of the new one right next to it?).
If I'm going to pay jacked up prices for a car, I'd rather spend the money on a new smart orphan (that a dealer at least installed extra options that can be useful) than a used Prius with an inflated price, but that's just me.
