Actually Autocross a smart!?!?!

Yep,
I have.
Two events now.
Went from pretty sketchy, lifting rear wheels and wondering how good Lexan is as a sled - to Pretty Decent!
I have disconnected the Stability and compared times.
1st event, nearly equal.

6 HS 6 Randy Z Smart Car!
63.782 65.930 63.132 63.509 64.031+1 63.132

Above is the proof, only time #3 was ESP off.
#3 was better than #1 and #4 but but not by much.
#s 2 and 5 had a passenger and that was death to the times.
ESP off, felt dangerous and I quit the experiment after one round.

Today, three and a half (3.5) seconds improvement!
The only engine mod was the new pooper but the time difference isn't a matter of increased power.

3 m HS 1 Randy Zimmer Mercedes smart yellow 76.543 76.207 76.401+OFF 73.192+2 72.790 72.790

72.693+1 72.216+1

7 runs.
1st two with ESP on.
Stuck at 76 sec.
Took off ESP, TC and ABS for all runs after.
The 72.2 was a nicked cone but the 72.7 was clean.

Rear wheel lift was gone. In fact, I'm told the front was getting light like it should - think old 911 stance.
The car did not feel tippy and even started to slide a small bit - mostly a push under power still, but manageable with some hint of rotation on lift.

Are you running on the stock front wheels?

I'm looking to get back into Autox once I've broken the thing in. How do you switch ESP off?

Interesting, but lots of questions, as above...
Tires?
Pressures?
Wheels?
And of course, how'd you turn off the electronics? If you don't do a DIY post on that one with good photos, expect a ton more questions.

I love the idea of autocrossing my smart. We race a vw scirocco and I'll bet the smart would be a challenge. Who knows, maybe their own class in SCCA.

One more quick question!
What did you do for a 5 point harness or is it required?

In AutoX, no five point harness is required . . . at least not in SCCA

Just a helmet, which you can usually borrow at the track.
