Aftermarket horn?

Has anyone installed an aftermarket horn?

I seen some nice airhorns.

Is it a difficult job to change out the horn?

Likely the most common mod that exists for smart cars. It was my 2nd, right after tinting windows. Kermit led you in the right direction.

The one thing SMART left out that is critical for that model horn is it must be mounted horizontally or you will have premature failure. Ask me how I know.

That's always one of my first modifications. I have the dual-tone Hella horns on both of my Subarus, and Stebel Nautilus Compact Air Horns on two of my scooters. If I can find room for them on the scooter, there's bound to be room on a Smart!

Hella horns and a Back-Off brake light flasher will be the first thing I do to my daughter's Smart if she gets one!

Here's a link to a sound file for the Stebel Nautilus Compact air horns

See my Garage for pics of installing a WOLO Bad Boy in front of the radiator.

I'm a big fan of Fiamm El Grandes, I mounted one of the pair in the OEM horn position and the other in it's mirror-mate position on the other side of the front end of the car. They sound like a Buick Roadmaster. I had a Stebel Nautilus (same as the Wolo Bad Boy) but it got wet and died after one year.

No matter what high-power horn you choose, please do install it with a horn relay powered from the car's battery, rather than plugging it directly into the stock horn wiring. If the horn gets water inside and shorts out, it will cripple your remote-locking ability.

Don't ask how several of us know this...

We carry both the Fiamm El Grandes horn and the Fiamm Ultimate blast air horn Dual tone air horn

El Grande Horn
smart car Horn - El Grande Twin Horns in Red

Ultimate tone air ultimate blast
smart car Horn - Dual Tone Air - Fiamm Ultimate Blast

Installation isnt to difficult it is more time consuming then anything else because of the amount of work required.

Replacing the stock horn is an awesome modification!

Will removal of the shorted horn restore remote-locking?
