b. We have a considerable population of road racing cyclists that train in our area. In my lither days (now gone by) I used to be one. A roadie is quite used to the sound of the Euro two-tone approaching from the rear, and knows them be friendly “cognozenti.” The only thing that could be more comforting to them would be a yellow smart with “MAVIC” decals on the sides and a roof covered with spare wheels.
Okay. I'll bite. Where can we get the euro horn here in the states?

It is an OEM smart part, so hopefully it will be available through your smart dealer. Note that the part number begins with "A451...," which means it is intended for the 451 smart. Maybe 450s too.

Here's an indi part house in the UK that will ship it to you (its around $50)

And there has to be someone in Canada by now... check www.clubsmartcar.ca

My 58 Renault Dauphine had a two tone horn. They even featured it in their commercials.

Does anyone have a link to the actual two tone horn (A4515420320) that I can listen to? Thanks, Regina

No, not at hand. But it's a quick, alternating high-low tone similar to Middle C Natural - G Sharp ("DeeDooDeeDoo..."). Not to be confused with the lower, slower "Wahh-Wooo-Wahh-Wooo..." used on Euro emergency and police vehicles (like when they are dragging Inspector Clouseau off to the pokey).

Sounds dumb, but that's the best I can do.

Amp. I can find no EU regulation for a particular frequency combination to be "CE" approved. But there seems to be a standard of a 100Hz difference, and I have now seen 400Hz-500Hz, 500Hz-600Hz, and 580Hz-680Hz. The C-G# (260Hz-450Hz) noted above is only my recollection of generic, commonly heard horns; smarts may be different.

Personally, I'd prefer the air horns they use on firetrucks, but I'm just guessing the compressor and trumpets would be bigger than the car.

I had air horns on my MINI, two-trumpet ones. It was very difficult to find a place to attach them.

We have the FIAMM twin horns in a Rover Mini; it's a tight fit but you need plenty of horn when driving a small car IMO.

I think if you had those, they could double as emergency brakes! Ever seen the videos on YouTube of the cars with train (locomotive) air horns on them sneaking up on people? I'd need to change shorts if someone did that to me!
