Any turbo/supercharger kits in the works?

Does anyone know if there are any turbo or supercharger kits in the works for the 451 US Spec Engine? I would think that a 5 psi turbo would not be that detrimental and might even increase mileage a tad....

I'm sure that there will be at least two companies developing one. Patience. ;)

No development or reinventing the wheel is needed... the bigger problem right now is finding some one who can remap the ECU for the existing turbo that Wellsmart has for sale

I know a shop who has already done the turbo modification but ran into computer problems, they are trying to work out the computer problems but its early in the game.

There are 3 shops in Euro I'm talking with who have already worked on the computers, but sadly they're not into the turbo modification so am trying to put the turbo guy in touch with the computer guys.

I can say that there are some modifications that are ready for the 451, I've got a couple computer mods for mine on route and have the full computer tuning option waiting for me to find a computer that I can send them.

The cost to get a full remap for the smart isn't cheap they're asking $1,100 but it might be worth it as for the most part it will be undetectable, where as a turbo conversion will definitely spark some warranty questions.

$1100 is pretty steep, that is almost a full standalone.....

What issues have they ran into with the computer? Is it anything that can be overcome with a different ECU?

All this is definitely peeking my interest being the speed freek that I can be at times.....

Normally with a turbo kit you can leave the engine as is and then add in an extra fuel system or just modify the fuel aspect of the car.

But on the 451 smart when they added the turbo even with the extra fuel the engine didn't want to react properly, don't know exactly what happened but the outcome was simply bolting on a turbo and fuel system wasn't enough.

As for the $1,100 it might be a lot but wow the power increase they can do with an engine tune on the Turbo is HUGE they get 180 hp but sadly on the American/Canadian 451 they only can get 115 hp, I guess since they are based in Europe and the Turbo version is available to all they expect the people looking for speed to take the Turbo version.

Oh how I wish I had the turbo version as driving around town the car is so much fun and feels fast I can only image how it would be on turbo. Yesterday we ran out on the highway, the car pulls hard 135 in 4th, went up to 145 but the car had a lot of power left was still pulling.

So, like ~84 mph?

I'm looking for a surplus G suit; afraid I may black out from the acceleration.
