Makes Sense.

Thanks for the information.

On another note, my dealer is balking about installing an "aftermarket" cruise. Since Smart doesn't offer one, I need some persuasion points. HELP!

Edit: I'm going to the dealer in an hour!

Too late, I suppose. Good luck!

But let us mid-Atlantic smarties know if Germantown agrees to install it. I may get one later this year and I know that Lindsay won't do it. Thanks.

Just back from dealership

I left web-based instructions with the tech. They seem game. I meant to bring in the unit but left it home. Duh duh duh. The tech seemed game though. I'm waiting for a part, and then will take the unit in. I'll let folks know. I mentioned that I would let the SCOA community know what happens as well. Thanks SCOA! Insert SCOA rules emoticon here.

Hi guys, my Smart will be here in April and my dealer says they have the 451 and will install it for $850, I would like to know where you got yours and if you really think the average joe can install it. Thanks and looking forward to hearing from anyone on this.

I bought mine from smartieparts in the first shipment. I installed it myself in less than 2 hours. And, incidentally, I'm an almost 70-year old grandmother, who knows nothing about cars but is very good at following directions. The installation instructions are really excellent. Take a look here - Installation Instructions: Table of Contents - before you spend the extra money for installation. You can buy more toys with what you'll save. - sheureka

Sheureka hit in on the head. It doesn't take much technical skill as much as the ability to follow instructions to the letter. Now that the pin extraction method has been taken care of, there shouldn't be any major problems. Just make sure you do this during daylight (makes distinguishing between the different wires easier) and make sure you double check your work, especially the part where you're dealing with removing and reinserting pins. Oh, and lower the tailgate before you disconnect the battery (trust me on this).

Like I said, it's not technical, but following directions is key.

Surprised that a dealer would consider... I have installed lots of stuff on cars... But as I get older, I prefer not to... Does anybody in Georgia or the Southeast install these?

Hey there Sheureka, I just ordered my CC from a guy in Oregon, he was on a thread the other day selling them for less money, but he gets them from Smartieparts I think cause he mentioned Steves name when I asked him about the pin removal tool. I would like to hear more about install if anyone cares to share.
