Another vote for the MDC. Great support from Smart Madness. No long cable runs to the ECU. Fine speed control very easy. Never used the Area 451, but the instructions look to make a more involved installation.
I agree with everything John said. I would add that, as I recall, Area 451 has stated its unit is programmable and can be modified by them to add a sprint booster type functionality if there is sufficient market demand to warrant it. I believe they are currently looking into the programming needed to do that, and I believe their goal is to make a more sophisticated type of sprint booster (i.e., with different modes, rather than the on/off mode in other units available on the market).
MDC here. Use it almost daily. Quick and easy plug and play installation. The reason I decided to get MDC is that it have all the same features as the 451, but also have additional controversial "Sprint Booster" which I love.

MDC have five different settings on the "Sprint Booster" not just on/off.
Just clarifying......
To the OP. You will be happy with any of the unit you purchase. CC is CC. They both have similar basic features you expect in any modern CC. Both units are made by reputable companies with a good track of service records.

Oops, my bad. That's the first time I heard of that. Thanks for clarifying, cube.
Are the MDC's sprint booster settings changeable by the user on the fly? Or are they fixed when you order the unit? Just wondering.
( ) you'll find the instructions for the MDC which show that setting the MDC pedal response is a matter of 1) controlling the key position, 2) holding a button on the CC stalk for a certain amount of time until an LED lights (may need to get to the box if the remote LED isn't installed), and 3) pressing a button again (as many times as needed) to select between the modes which includes "off" which is the factory default, giving a number of blinks for each.
It all sounds a bit complicated at first blush, but I can't think of any way where it could have been made any simpler without providing some sort of keyboard as part of the package (and thus driving up prices alarmingly.
I had read all the posts, the recalls with a few of the early 451's, the stone throwing by Steven about the older MDC's and none the less took a chance on the MDC since there are thousands installed in Europe and the 451 is a relatively new product. It was easy to install, it works flawlessly, I ordered the LED and had to decide where to mount it, that was the only tough part. I haven't needed customer service since it works flawlessly, so in spite of the early installations on here of the 451's getting lot's of posters, my vote goes to the MDC.
