I didn't know of any US cars with an auto up. It's good to know they're out there!
There's text either in the manual or the tech guide that the auto-up isn't supplied because of the danger.
An anti-pinch feature would be much like the garage door protection: if the closing surface meets resistance before the seal compresses, open back up.
It wouldn't be "a ton of work" as much as proper integration. The force on an electrical motor can be measured by the "back EMF." Effectively you can tell how much force a motor requires by how much instantaneous power it takes to operate.
