My mom's 04 Acura TSX has auto up, and it sure didn't feel like they had a pinch protection in them, it hurts if you leave your finger in the way of the window, yes... I tested it.
For what it's worth, I've owned a few Mitsubishis, and they were easy to mod for auto-up windows. Some where electrically modified, others simply needed some plastic ground down:
I just wish I could get my auto-down to work consistantly. It has been looked at three times and the switch changed once. It will work for a day-or-so after servicing, and then fails again. I think it may be more about weather seal stickiness than the switch. Only problem in a year.
I hate the auto down feature of the Smart...It's the one thing I don't like about the car IMO, it is backwards and hard to just get the windows to go down a crack. It should work so you press it all the way quickly to perform an "auto down" instead of a 1/2 press.
