Well, back to the great debate.

Back in December I got the Internet flaming of my life for the audacity to even offer a cold air intake. At that time you could only buy one and it was the worst design ever conceived. At least now your options are better. It seems like every few months we dive back into this subject and all three of us who stand to make any money off the topic will all tell you something different

*Smart Car Performance will tell you that since theirs draws air from close to the inlet scoop theirs is the best.

*I (Genius Parts) will tell you that since mine draws air from down low that mine is the best.

*And breathless will tell you that just putting their panel filter in is enough and theirs is the best.

Who's is really the best? To be honest both mine and Smart Car Performance are probably within a couple of HP and a couple of degree intake temp of each other. Mine is a little cheaper but there's comes in a bunch of colors.

In short, Buy which ever one you like better, we are kind of splitting hairs. They are just two different ways to get to the same end result, which is some extra power for your Smart. (probably about 4HP at the wheels)

I have to disagree a little about the noise thing. If you look at the air box that came in your Smart Car it is multiple chambers and piping with the object being less noise. You are replacing this with a product engineered to provide a less restricted flow of air into the throttle body. It's going to be a little louder on full throttle, you will actually be able to hear the air being sucked into the motor on either design.

Cold Air Intake Ver II

Version I has been out of the market since about December 2008. It is now July 2009. We offer upgrade to Version II for those who own Version I.

Version II was a much needed improvement which was a result of all the feedback from our customers. Our goal is to provide an efficient Cold Air Intake system for the SMART car since there wasn't anything out there at the time. As a result, we have had ZERO problems and now we have it in polished, Blue, Red, and Yellow. We use a local company that does top of the line powdercoating and polishing. I think the SMART community deserves the best quality products and that is what we try to do.

All 3 of you crack me up... I've had all 3 versions of the CAI's on my car as well as the KN drop in in the stock system which is almost identical to BP's drop in.

While the drop in served it's purpose in the begining, any preformance gain wasn't noticible.... it just sounded alittle better.

Version 1 of the Smartmaddness CAI was actually probably the best I've had yet on the car... If I can find one for less than my unborn child I'll probably switch back. Simple design that didn't get hot.

I was able to driver a car with Version 2 for about a week... both had scan guages on them and the temps were both within about 2 to 3 degrees of eachother. I didn't really like the design but that's just my opinion.

I currently have the genius on my car... It seems to get VERY hot and isn't the easiest to get in and out to clean. I did get what I can only assume was a small case of hydro lock... HUGE thunderstorm and we were going 70 on the interstate... all of the sudden the engin light came on and the engine went into what could be best described as "safe mode"... no power at all... was able to get off the interstate and shut it down for a few minutes... car was fine after that and it's never happened again.

Like I said... given a choice I'd probably switch back to the VER1 from Smart Maddness but it's really a case of what you think looks good and sounds good.
