So, who has made their own exhaust? Seems like a custom muffler shop could take a Flowmaster or similar muffler and work up something for a lot less than the commercial versions. Thoughts?
I've been working on this idea myself. I have most of the specifications for the muffler I want to use. I just need to do a lot of measuring on my car to make sure my design in my head works. IF successful, I may go ahead and market it. I think I can definitely build and sell them cheaper than the available units, but stainless isn't cheap, don't expect a system for half the price. I plan on offering both a center exit and a stock exit version. I am going to use a baffled muffler, so hopefully it will address the drone issue some have complained about. And yes mine will have a flex joint so it doesn't tear anything up.
The evil twin sounds great! Did you go through smartsrus.com? They seem to have the best prices, cheaper than anyone here and thats including shipping across the pond and still cheaper than anyone here!
Originally I contacted smartsrus.com, and the next thing I knew I got an e-mail from a reseller on the east coast. Name escapes me for the moment, and I'm not home to look it up.
I've heard from folks who have had only good things to say about the Evil Twin. It should come any day....
I would have considered a dual exit Solo, but that's water under the bridge, now.
I am running a full long tube 28 inch primary header and a Magnaflow muff. WAY LOUD!!!
looks like the one in my avatar.
this is the prototype, I am making a new muffler in 2 weeks, and have a good way to attach that hasn't broken yet, even under my EXTREAME hard usage. It is the fastest I have ever used.
I just installed a Solo side exit exhaust, and will be taking it out tomorrow. For something that is advertised as a quiet exhaust with no drone, that exhaust is LOUD! Not only LOUD, but the drone is unbearable! I have to play Bon Jovi at 70% volume just to drown out that drone at 45 mph. I have a serious amount of buyers remorse. I have owned Remus, HKS, Borla, and Gibson aftermarkets, but this one takes the gold for loudest, most vibrating, most interior reverberating. Someone send me a PM if you want to buy a Solo side exit exhaust with 10 miles on it.
hey guy how the little blue car treating yah? im not sure about that one looks like it has alot of space for noise dampenening .. but what bothers me is i doesnt have a flex pipe.. i know you drive a lot.. the remus, the new solo or borla have a flex arangement .. from what ive been hearing the the exhausts with the torque spring setups do a good job from keeping the exhaust from cracking. but i hear if there is a weak weld on the cat it can cause a crack in the cat. i have the first gen solo breaths very well great power .. but its kinda loud .. but thats with the header. goto smart madness site they have the sound clip see how that sounds might be quited enuff with the stock cat. hope that helps =)
I have had the Breathless V1, too loud. I then went to the DTH, it broke. Now on the DTH v2, still a bit loud. I just ordered the DTH Quiet version, it should arrive this week and I will install it this weekend myself. I'll let you know the outcome. I just tweeked my 400 watt stereo system and like to enjoy the sounds of music.
I have a Solo 2 side exhaust on my Smart and it was a little louder than I was lead to believe. I pulled up the carpet and put 3 coats of Quiet Car sound deadener on all the metal and floor boards as well as Zillia mat on the engine cover and firewall. It's much quieter now and has a nice soft purr on the highway : )
