I love my Smart. About the only gripe I have is...
... this brick they call "key." This is ridiculous. Huge. Does not fold. A key ring can hardly be threaded through the -plastic- key hole.
My other car has keyless start, so my key stays in my pocket. So... that got me thinking:
1. Get rid of the key barrel in between the seats
2. Install a push button start
3. Saw off the metal piece of the key
4. Install a microswitch somewhere discrete. The microswitch, when pressed, powers the start button for 1 minute and subsequently resets to off
Here's how it would work. Approaching a locked car:
(a) hit remote to disable alarm and immobilizer and unlock door
(b) hit the microswitch
(c) hit the start button
(d) go
Any thoughts, leads, suggestions?
