I contacted the dealer this AM and he is sending the bracket and screws for the front plate. Still no title and he is checking on that. One other thing I questioned him about was the fact that the manual says on page 305 that we can request a list of approved oils and filters. He would not send me the list and only said I had to get the filter from them that on one else makes them. Well, thanks to this forum I did some research and found lots of answers. Thanks again to this wonderful forum!!

I got the title and front license plate bracket this AM. Now, I don't know how to mount this front plate. There are no dimples or holes in the front that I can see. How have others handled this? Is there a diagram or instructions to follow? Any help is useful. Thanks!
Mary

If you got the black plastic one with the smart logo on it, just center it on the front panel above the lower grill and insert the screws thorough the plate holder into the plastic front panel (makes me queasy to even describe this ) Then you'll need two or four more screws to attach the plate to the bracket.

If you don't want to drill holes in the front of your new smart, check out our supporting vendor gominigo.com for the "no holes" front plate bracket for the smart.

Thanks for the info. I know, I am not keen on screwing in that bracket, but looks like that is the way I'll go. I am just glad to finally have my title and plates.

The dealers have access to the oil information. My dealer provided me with a copy. See: Oh No!! Another oil thread. :) . There is lots of filter discussion in the forum too.

If you decide to directly screw the OEM plate bracket on it would be better to use "rivet nuts" instead just running self-tapping screws into the soft, thin plastic. Search "rivet nut" at: McMaster-Carr .

We mounted the bracket today. I was wrong and there were indeed the dimples as guidelines. Now just have to get some more of the correct screws to mount the plate. Thanks for all the useful info!

I knew you'd find them eventually.

license plate mount

I had a similar problem when I asked where the rear holes or bracket was. Here is what I did for the rear. I am guessing it would work for the front as well. My car has the same two dimples in the front that I mention for the rear below.
Took delivery of my Smart at the dealer in Chicago about a month ago. Brought it home with a paper temp tag in the rear window. I now have received my Michigan plate and proceeded to try and mount it. I was told by the dealer(s) that the car has no rear bracket. It also has no indication of where you would drill to mount the US style plate. I can see the pair of dimples in the rear deck for the European number plate. Now I am a stickler for detail, so drilling willy-nilly into my new car doesn't appeal to me. Here is my simple but somewhat involved solution. For around six bucks I got a universal license bracket at NAPA, NAPA number 730-5410 (Bell PN 46127-8). It is just a quarter inch think plastic slotted adapter plate. It comes with screws that are too long, which I saved for some other project. I drilled the two factory dimples in the rear deck to mount the bracket to the car. I ran a 1/4-20 tap through the adapter's four, plate mounting holes before mounting it to the car with shorter versions of the screws that came with the bracket. When you drill the holes you will understand why. After bolting the bracket to the deck where the factory intended, I bolted my license plate with 1/4-20 x 1/4" long fasteners. Voila, a little work, but I used the factory dimples and only drilled two holes in the car. And, it lines up with no measuring, eyeballing etc. Will add a bracket pic when I figure out how.
