Breathless high flow air filter coming soon.

I just got off the phone with Ernie at Breathless. Breatless will soon have a new high flow air filter for the Smart 451. Unlike the K&N, which does not offer an exact fit, the new Breathless high flow air filter is reported to fit perfectly. Shown below is a paraphrased versions of the email I received from Ernie.

"After all the testing we have found that the factory box is a sealed box, which obtains air flow from only the outside (not hot air from the engine bay). Use of a high flow filter proved to out-perform the so-called cold air induction systems. The intake temp on the stock system, with a good high flow filter, was about 10 to 20 degrees cooler then the others thus giving a higher timing curve and optimum fuel mixture.

We will have our first batch of high flow drop in replacement filters to
ship out by 9/26/08."

One of them for Corvette is to drill some one inch or so holes in the airbox lid. Sort of defeats the sealed airbox if done on the smart.

Ask Ernie, I did it already.

It will cost you 50 cents.

it is not cutting extra holes in the airbox, it keeps the intake path intact.

Once again, those clueless smart engineers seem to have stumbled onto the right idea straight from the factory. How do they do it?

Have a look on line for the ITG filters that BigPerformance.Co.Uk and Wellsmart.Co.Uk developed.

If you drilled holes in the airbox LID you would bypass the filter totally

And that's why they call it "the $0.50 air box mod."

Not if the two holes are covered with US quarters and sealed with silicon.
