Thanks John, you are a wealth of information. I found this link in which an A3 owner modded his car with a homelink box.
2007 Audi A3 Homelink Install

The one he has in the photos is exactly the one I bought. Would you be able to tell by looking at the photos of the circuit board on the homelink that the switch will be compatable with the button bank circuitboard?

Only if the photos were remarkably clear, obvious, and of a 2-layer board, and even then I can't be certain because the chip the switch feeds is probably not obvious (they're often custom chips with no data sheets available). To understand the device operation, a volt meter probe while operating would be needed to make an educated guess, but still a guess.

I sent PMs to everyone on the initial reserve list but haven't heard back from everyone. There are choices for which switch, LED, or combination to control with and channel count that I need clarified to wire the boards properly. Please check your Private Messages from Monday Sept 7th.

This is my big week where I finish cementing the stones into the water feature, pack everything I'm moving into two large closet sized cubes, dumpsterize whatever's not worth keeping (donate what's left over that is), touch up a few spots around the house with paint, and finish these switchboards.

If push comes to shove, I'll leave the switchboards to the other side of the trip (about 2 weeks from today) but I'd love to have them "out of the way" beforehand.

Thanks for your attention,
- John

John,

You'll have to put the top down to get those "cubes" in your smart

Best of Luck

The incredible shrinking cubes

As much as I wanted this stuff complete and out of the way before the move, I won't have the tiny enclosures back in time to finish assembly, test, and ship, so I'll just make sure the enclosures are done and at my destination when I get to Florida.

It will give me more time to document things while I hole up in a decent hotel here or there along the way with a computer small enough to be considered "portable."

I should finish everything up and ship the week when September becomes October. I'll have PayPal information ready by then.

But I'd still like answers from the PMs I sent to configure things properly! Thanks to those who already provided your input.

I'll be shipping in a day or two so you'll be getting an email (or PM if you didn't send a note to switchboard@johnhandwork.com) tonight or tomorrow.

I have the last bits for the final cable assembly coming back tonight along with some pricing for those last pieces.

I haven't heard a response from everyone on the list so if you don't remember seeing anything, check your Private Messages from Sept 8th before the move. I think I'm missing word from 3 people. Since I haven't given the price yet, I haven't expected a commitment from anyone, just particulars on anticipated needs.

I've already taken a bunch of photos and figure I'll be doing the write-up over the next couple days as well.

You did all that without a firm commitment from anyone? Sir John, I salute you!
