I believe that is for the 450 smarts; could be wrong.

They generally charge $20 for shipping. For that price I'd just buy the Area 451, shipping would probably be quicker too.

I think the pros and cons of that CC have been covered in the Area 451 CC thread.

PS - good discussion of CC options for the smart: http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/ind...age=page&id=20

Smart Center Coral Gables sells these as a dealer added extra. Works very well, however I would rather support a more local company.

You're both right... It was built for the 450 but has been adapted for the 451... From what I understand though, the installation is not nearly as easy as Area 451's cruise... i'll save my pennies and wait.

And my understanding is that a critical component (including the circuit board?) of that other CC is mounted in the driver-side footwell, where it may be prone to moisture from wet shoes. The Area451 system is mounted in the rear panel where the ECU is located, completely isolated from moisture.

The choice for me boiled down to this: I'd rather have a system that was built specifically for and thoroughly tested with the 451, rather than have a system that was designed for the 450 but modified to work with the 451. That, and the fact that the Area451 system is available and actually cheaper than the other system sold me (the other CC is not even available due to the lack of that wiper/CC combo stem).

Here are some of the differences between the MDC unit and the Area 451 -

1) The MDC doesn't match the color of the original shaft.
2) The MDC only works in automatic; the 451 can be used in either automatic or manual.
3) The 451 disengages when traction control comes on; the MDC doesn't.
4) The installation of the MDC requires disconnecting the accelerator and dismantling the speedometer; the 451 just requires disassembling and replacing the wiper shaft in the front.
5) I can't get down on the floor of the car at all, so it would have been impossible for me to install the MDC; the 451 can be done entirely while sitting in the front seat and in the cargo area.
6) Since the Area451 designers are so easy to contact, I'm a lot more confident about resolving any problems that might come up in the future.

Just my six cents. - sheureka

1. You're understanding couldn't be more wrong. The MDC CC is NOT in the footwell or even on the driver's side. It is mounted behind the dash just above the center floor console, not down on the floor where you're main wiring harness is located ( heaven forbid).

2. You probably don't want to hear this but..... you're 451 is a whole lot closer to a 450 than you think. The 451 is a model change NOT a brand new car.

3. Without trying to put down or knocking the 451 cc in any way, but to call a spade a Spade, the MDC CC has a built-in Anti theft feature that, in my opinion, is the best in the world; I make the wager (and not lightly) To anyone; If you can drive off with my car, after I set my anti theft, I will sign over the pink slip.............. When you fail, you buy me dinner at the resturant of my choice. ANY TAKERS ? I'M HUNGRY ! BTW: for this wager, I'll even turn OFF the immobiliser once, you have until it turns back on to drive off. If perchance, you saw a thief driving off with your car...... How much would you pay for the above feature at that moment ?

I will post details to any sincere challangers.

THIS IS A BONA FIED OFFER OF WAGER.

All things considered, if I had a model 451, I probably would purchase a 451 CC.
