Hey BbB,
Can you post a P/N?

Sure - SDG-201. Plenty on eBay but readily available at parts stores.

I desperately wanted one of Smartbillet's gas doors but unfortunately the wife says otherwise. So I had to come up with some sort of solution to get rid of that ugly black beast we call a stock gas door. I broke out the tape measure then hit the stores and came up with a gas door cover from a 97-03 Ford Truck - pretty much an exact fit. I got mine from Autozone - $19.99!

REMEMBER - this thing is a thin metal - NOTHING NEAR the quality of Smartbillet's fine product but it does cost a fraction. You can maintain the locking feature of the gas door. It is attached with 3M double sided moulding tape but I have an idea to secure it further with a dab of JB Weld, some small bolts, nuts and a short length of flat aluminum.

Great find, good job, DIY!!!!!

I'm still waiting to see if I should put on my flak jacket. You know how people can get with us DIY'ers. Only reason I didn't do a side shot of the car is I didn't want people to see my chair tip lug nut covers.

While it really does look great and fits very well I'd still prefer Smartbillets cover but the additional $$ will go to him for something else I assure you.

I did it couple of weeks ago and forgot to thank Bum-bling-B for the idea.
I modified my stock lid just a little, so new cover completely flushed.

I shaved parts of the factory lid with dremel just a bit, so cover will be flushed.

Quite welcome Cube. I've used so many of your ideas we're not quite even yet.

I've added some red vinyl (kind like you could dig out of a sign shops garbage) to the center portion of my door. It matches pretty good and takes away a lot of the bling. I was surprised even my mother liked it plus my wife noticed it and she never ever notices any of the changes I do to the cars until she checks the bank accounts.

I didn't dig my vinyl out of a dumpster but one of the rental properties we deal with has a sign shop as a tenant and there is tons of scraps in their dumpster so I know you can easily go ask a sign shop for scraps for small filler areas on your car. To explain further I do maintenance on the building and I don't dumpster dive, but I'm not to proud to say I haven't done it before to get some really cool stuff - my complete 10ft tall x 20ft long commercial shelving system in my garage was from Autozone. OK, enough of the off topic talk, perhaps a dumpster diving thread would be good in the Off-topic lounge. Anyone want to start it?
