Clear Dome Light?

Does anyone know if there is someone out there that makes a clear dome lens? Let me know!

Can't think of anyone that would make one or even WHY you would want one. If it was "clear", it would probably BLIND YOU......

No blinding here. I have installed a UV blacklight in mine and the frosted lens filters the UV out which makes it look blue.

i... don't really see how that stops claims of it possibly blinding you. frosted lens = not as much light coming through, and not staring directly at the bare bulb.

IF the frosted lens blocks the UV his black light posters won't glow.

BTW: filtering out the UV (if the lens actually does that) won't change the visible appearance of the light.

Excellent point! The only difference would be how much fluorescence there is. If you had a dome lens that fluoresced, that would make things very different.

If your UV source is actually LEDs, those are typically right around 400nm and still quite visible (though not "efficiently" so).

You guys seem to be forgetting all of the cars in the last 50 years that had clear dome lights... they have angles cut into the glass/plastic that diffused the light, but did not filter it's color. I don't know anyone that was blinded by those.

The stock lens does not selectively filter any light. It is simply frosted clear plastic in order to better diffuse the light throughout the cabin.

Padawan - they don't add filtering, but the natural material and frosting has specific light transfer characteristics that could be affecting things. I don't know anyone that's done a spectral sweep of transmittance on these things, after all.

Frosted or coated, and if so, with what? Altering the surface with anything that leads to color change of the surface is going to filter out some light, unless my physics memory is entirely screwed up. White light (and just about any other color) that passes through any color plane will be altered.
