Clear Dome Light?

I think the issue here is the OP has a lamp that makes thing glow when the cover is off, but things don't glow when the cover is on.

Most likely that lens is UV stabilized to extend its life and keep it from yellowing over time. That process may be blocking whe light we normaly don't see but makes thing glow. Its not something that is within the normal operating peramiters of the lens.

Not sure a 'clear' lens would have any different effect

Parts of the UV spectrum are blocked by plain glass so I would imagine it could be blocked by plain plastic as well. . . one of those "experiment and see" things. Now if you could only find a clear lens to fit the smart . . .
