clock removal?

just my opinion but i think the tach/clock looks tacky. i want a tach but not a clock too. can the clock be removed without leaving a hole in the dash pad? does anyone know if there are aftermarket tachometers for 3 cylinders? i have only been able to find 4,6,8 cylinder tachs.

If all you want is a tach - get a Scangauge. But the tach/clock squid eyes are one of the signature quirky charms of the smart - and will make a real difference with resale if you ever want to get rid of the car. - sheureka

I'm sure you can - Paul at RoundRock sells them (smart Interior Accessories by classicsmarts) for $270 for the pods and $18 for the bezel rings. I'm sure all the dealers have them.

I am in the process of replacing the clock with a spa technique gauge. That will show coolant and oil temp.

For aftermarket tach to work on our smart, you can choose 6cyl option but you need to add an 555 timer to reduce the timing. Challenging but feasible.

The clock can be removed without leaving any trace of it. Follow the instructions to remove the radio and you will see that the gauges are attached to a hidden point under the grey dash cover. Just detatch it and unplug the harness. Be sure to cap off or tape over the end.

I'm thinking of moving my tach to the left and mount it to the a/c cover there, and moving the clock under the dash.

I don't like the pods and am only interested in installing a PROFORM shift light, for the occasional times that I am in a hurry. Any thoughts?
