cruise control

Anyone have any experience with aftermarket crusie control for a smarty? My girlfriend just got a $121 ticket by letting the mighty smart drift up above highway speed on her 40 mi rural commute.

I got it and love it!

I also had fears of getting a speeding ticket in my smart car, but now that I have my cruise control installed, I can now count on not exceeding the limit. It works marvelously and I no longer am always having to speed up or slow down to maintain the posted speeds.

I was also incredibly impressed with being able to install it myself, and it's so perfectly designed that it truly looks and feels like it was an option from the factory. I recommend it highly.

Q: How does a cruise control work on a manual transmission and especially om the smart?

As long as you keep it in "D" it'll still continue to do all the downshifting & upshifting on it's own to maintain the set speed.

Or if you switch from D to paddle mode, the system still keeps up! You can switch to different gears for hills if you prefer and the Area 451 cruise control keeps doing the right thing!

Having no manual clutch is helpful for a clean implementation.

Right ON! The cruise control is a "Smart" cruise control.

In my area, you change towns every few miles and each seems to have a cop with a radar gun waiting to nail you to bring in some money for their town. I too tend to drift over the limit, particularly on the local 25 and 35 mph roads, hence the cruise control. My Area451 works equally well and I'd recommend it without reservation.

Installed the area 451 cruise today. the worst part of the installation is wiring the plug that accesses the computer. Total install in about 1 and 1/2 hours. Works well, no surges and holds the speed well and has resume and tap up feature

I love my Area 451 cruise control. I work an off shift so traffic is light, going to and from work and it was real easy to let the speed get away from you. The cruise fixed that. Very easy install, just a pain removing the wires from the harness.
