If anybody is interested in Cruise control and is willing to spend 299 euros or 450$ plus shipping let me know. Is a simple do it yourself mod. Looks perfectly stock. Yes, it is compatible with the 451 US modell and No, I make no money at the deal. I want it myself and know others would love to have it too.
I'd love it, but not for $450 just for the parts. I'm not sure how much it's worth to me yet. I'll probably wait until the warranty runs out before I install new things.
Wow!! Only $450!!! I'd order it now but I haven't even configured my '09 yet. I've seen the same mod on the european pages and it looks like you had better know exactly what you are doing to install. I would really like smartUSA to wake up to the fact that WE LOOK AT THE EURO POSTINGS!

Yes, it will fit the 451, BUT be aware that the stalk will not match! It is the color of the 450 (gray) not black! I believe I read somewhere that this product had a recall due to some flaw with the 451. I don't know for sure. Since my DDE is June - Aug 09, I've got plenty of time for these kind of things to get worked out!
And interestingly enough, smart is looking at what WE are doing about this. There too, there is a growing demand for cruise control. And Smartville wants to know what WE are coming up with!
Are the developers here, in the USA, currently working on it, reading this?
Does that implies that American have a better knowledge in the matter?
One UK smart part supplier has put sales of this cruise control on hold until problems (?) are addressed by the manuf. And yes, there is an aftermarket US-built smart cruise control under development.
I bought vintage Lancia last summer and the original owner added an Audiovox CCS-100 universal cruise control to the car. It cost about $100, and has a nice backlit control module that's about 1 x 2" abd 1/2" thick. I picked up the car in Dallas and drove it 2000 mi home to CT, and it worked great.
If I were intrested in CC, I'd see if it would work on the fortwo before dropping $450 even if the stalk did match.

Box instructions say, "Will not work on a drive by wire vehicle, must have a throttle cable. SO NO
Well, i've bought from this guy before and met him at a smart get together and it's all original smart wireing and column lever with that little mod that keeps you at tempo. As for mentioned difference, i'm not quite up to speed
But i do hope someone on our side of the atlantic gets off his butt and produces the gismo.
