150W inverter with USB port...

Cube correct me if I'm wrong but the usb charging port gets its power from the inverter as well. The second usb port hooks to his head unit for ipod control. I have no need for an AC powered outlet in my car, but my ipod and both cell phones charge with usb. I just picked up a 4 port usb charger from ebay that plugs into the power outlet for less than 8 bucks shipped (this USB 4 Ports Car Charger for MP3 iPod CD+FM Transmitter - eBay (item 140250806808 end time Jul-25-08 15:14:25 PDT) ) and will hide and rewire it to connect to one of the SAM units always hot locations. My goal is to run those panel mount usb jacks, 2 to the glove box, 1 to the area left of the wheel where the sunglass holder is supposed to go, and the last one either near the cupholders or all the way to one of the back inside access covers.

Yep,
You right on the setup. One of my USB ports got power from inverter and second one connected to my Pioneer headunit for iPod controls.
Yours should be fine, just make sure that you test it before you wire everything. Sometimes those USB inverters having trouble to charge iPods.

Most of the inverters already have at least one 5V USB port. All you need is to plug extension USB cable.

Combo inverter and USB from Herrington

I'm thinking that this might be an easier modification for someone like me with less experience with these sort of things. I thought I might mount it in the glove box and plug it into an outlet like yours and wire that to the battery, fused of course. Any thoughts?

Roadmaster Power Inverter: USB/110/12V???

Hey Cube, great post. i was wondering where to find that inverter, is this the one?> "Roadmaster Power Inverter: USB/110/12V" . It sounds right but the other ones on this page were the kind that plug into the cigarette lighter outlet, and this one didn't have a pic. Thanks

I got mine in Discount Auto parts, but any other one with USB port will work. I found that round shape ones (inverters designed for cup holders) easier to mount behind the glovebox.

Any idea how much room there is behind the glove box? I don't want to cut a hole in an airbag or something... I noticed everything was on the left side...is there more room there?

There is plenty of space. Airbag is ABOVE the glove box.
