doug thorley headers

i just got my headers from smart madness installed today and i have to say they really did open up the car .. seems like a very noticeable power increase , just like they promised. only down side is its a tad bit loud with the first gen dth single tip exhaust. ill be putting down some dynomat in the morning. kinda sounds like jap motor bike now. any way im pleasantly pleased with the product. the headers came in polished and ceramic coated ..it was totally smooth not one ruff edge or burr.
well im off yall have a good one =)

Glad you like them Foy. They are very nicely finished and are pretty easy to install. We have a set on our Yellow smart with a loud exhaust and with the both of them on, they do have some noise. I love it, but Rachel thinks it is a bit too loud for her taste. We have not done any Dynomat, but will shortly and that will help a lot.

We just put a set of these same headers on another smart and also installed a Remus exhaust. That made a huge difference. The set up was not as loud and actually made less noise than just the center exhaust we had on our car before.

In regards to performance. You are right! It does feel like it really opens up the car!

Next we are doing the coil overs and the Turbo. I figure with the Vertical Doors open and all the other mods we can make the smart fly! :-)

Thanks again for your support.

Boris

Definitely on my list of upgrades. Any pictures btw? Tips for removing the OE piece?

how do the coil overs work ive got h+r springs on it now do they replace them?
yeah im trying to save up for the turbo.. figure with the headers and the stage 2 i should be easly able to get 120hp.
oh yeah how much quiter is the remus over the dth and does it still have the same gains?

oh yeah the oe exhaust manifoild is junk it looks like it favors the center cyclinder. the hardest part from watching the tech install it seems lining up the gaskets.. needed a second person help hold it in place. but other wise easy enuff

Anthony (the owner of the Black smart with Vertical doors and the Pink one) and I installed a set. Well, actually he installed it and I stood by and watched and kept saying "Are you sure you don't need any help?" LOL!

He was able to take the old off and install the new by himself. The only thing I did is simply help him hold the old exhaust while he loosened it.

It is a pretty easy install as long as you have some tools at your disposal and a jack to lift the car. We took off the rear panel and it exposed everything. Made it a lot easier.

As far as the comparison of the DTH exhaust and headers and the DTH headers and a Remus exhaust? Much less noise and the performance gains seem to still be there, but we do not have a dyno.
