Doug Thorley Headers - a new product
I just spoke with Nick at DTH. DTH is designing a stainless steel, baffle insert for the exisitng DTH cat-back exhaust. The device is spec.d to reduce the horsepower a tiny 0.25 hp BUT quiet the exhaust drone significantly. The exact db spec.s will follow from DTH on their web site:
DougThorleyHeaders.com
I am told the new unit will be available to all within thirty days and is easy to install. I was so excited, I tried to pre-pay with my credit card. Nick appreciated the offer, but I must wait a few more weeks. Damn. I almost had the little bugger.
7/30/08: DTH has abandoned the insert! They could not get it to work without significant hp loss.

Any update on this?
I have the Thorley dual-tip exhaust, which looks very cool and adds nice power but is VERY loud, and sure would like the baffles. I did not see anything on the website. Any news? Thanks.

It doesn't sound like it's going to happen, On 7/28/08, Lowndex posted in another thread
New, quieter exhaust for Smart
DTH exhaust insert baffle a no-go!
After four weeks of trying, DTH is now saying the horse power loss with an exhaust tip insert is not minimal. The hp loss is such the end result is close to stock! That said, I would not wait for a single tip quieter solution.

Thanks again, Thats the reason for no answer from DTH ! When I get home from NYC trip, will see if a resonator will help. But as Lowndex has stated the new Dual Tip is, or was supposed to be quite, compared to the single tip. I own the one from Lowndex that he sold. I personally don't find it that bad. Only at 65-75 MPH there is this cycling drone (Like an old prop airplane) Best I can discribe it. Well in closing I did see two Smarts parked on the streets. One in Bklyn (Ocean PKWY) on the way to Coney Island. That was BLU/SILV/BLK. The second one on W50th ST Manhattan WHT/SILV/BLK on the way to see the play Young Frankenstein. Great City!!!! Will post any luck with this problem

Has anyone tried a SuperTrapp on the end of the exhaust?
they are not very restrictive and help cut the noise.
They are also tunable so you could make it more or less quiet and tune out any drone if you had one.
They are avaliable locally here at a dune buggy shop, you might be able to get them at a VW shop.
