Hey Guy, I haven`t received it yet since the "nut" part is on backorder. They`ll ship it all at once since I have other stuff ordered also. Will post when I get it.

I checked out a 2009 smart at smart center Riverside: same engine compartment fastener as the 2008...lame!

When I finally got sick of the stock fastener never closing correctly, I pulled out the whole assembly and replaced it with an extruded U-nut and a plain old 1/4" bolt with a washer. 11mm socket works on the hex head.

Mine works fine, you just have to make sure that the cover is aligned properly. Do not lift the cover by the bail nut.

...IMHO..check the receptacle first..it gets pushed apart by the locking stud thus making it harder to engage the "screw"..
..the fix is to pull the receptacle out..close it with pliers and re-install...
