Evilution designed silicone intake pipe.

Hello again fellow smart owners.

I had been reading with interest the "banter" between the 2 companies battling for "replacement intake pipe supremacy". Silicone versus stainless, price versus functionality etc. Obviously each company prefers their own design as they want to sell more than the competition.

I have been testing a design of mine for a few months so I thought I'd appear and stick my rather large "engineering" oar into the proceedings, add another option and mix things up a bit

Firstly, lets look at the design, they are both the same shape. Sorry to tell you guys but it's the WRONG shape.

Imagine how slow a NASCAR race would be if instead of having 2 long sweeping bends, you had 4 right angles. Same with running on a running track. Same applies to the flow of air.
If you force air around a right angle, you create a bad turbulence and it will slow the flow of air. Air wants to flow as straight as possible and doesn't do cornering as well as you might think. In a tight corner it will hit the sides causing all manner of flow restrictions.

So, being an engineer and understanding basic physics (and wanting to create a product that is superior to everything else because us smart owners deserve it). I give to you my design.

Evil 451 TIK by Forge

The design speaks for itself. It's a 4 ply construction made by Forge Motorsport, the fitment is perfect and this is one of 4 products I have designed with Forge that they now sell. This is the first thing I have had them make for the 451 NA.

Upon checking out, in the comments section, tell them you would like the order to be fulfilled by their USA office in Orlando, FL. It adds a couple of days to the arrival of the part, but you can avoid the USD to GBP conversion (brutal right now).
Currently, including the P&P, my design works out to be about 1 buck more expensive but I am on to Forge UK about having this part listed on the USA site so you might see a bit more knocked off the price.

Unlike the other companies touting their wares, I have no interest in how many of these Forge sell. I don't get any money from them so I have no ulterior motive for recommending this design apart from it being one of mine. I got my one for free so I'm happy and Forge get a product to sell so they are happy.

So, if you are in the market for such a pipe, all I ask is you give this one a thought. If you have any questions, please ask, I'll try my best to answer them.

Oh, this will be good!

Funny, had a talk with jetfuel at the Dragon about doing something similar with some silicon tubing - great minds, etc. You've even included the EGR connector as well. Hopefully this will end up on the Forge USA site but for now, as a non-engineer, this makes sense to me. Thanks!

Afterthought - any dyno test results yet?

This hose will fit the 61bhp and 71bhp Smart Fortwo 451 models (2008 onwards), both these models are naturally aspirated.

Note: This will NOT fit the 84bhp or Brabus smart fortwo 451
Oh, somebody needs to tell them about the wimpy USA Brabus.

$81.31 at today's rate, less shipping of course.

Forge Motorsport | Alloy Fabrication

It is on their USA site: http://www.forgemotorsport.com/conte...product=FMSC42 Right now you have to call for the price; I was quoted $115, plus shipping. Same colors as on the UK site.

+1 on the 90* elbow comment. In the HVAC trades, we used to the thumbnail calculation that one 90* bend adds airflow resistance nearly equal to 30 feet of straight pipe.

I reckon that ratio can be scaled down in this application but still, always good airflow engineering to avoid sharp bends whenever possible.

Nice job, Kane!
