There is always 2 ways to remove something, the easy way and the hard way.
The hard way means you can put it back on. The easy way means it gets butchered into several pieces and removed bit at a time.

I prefer to take it off in one piece; the bolt that jet referred to is the killer IMHO; still working on how and what to use to get it removed - T30 allen wrench?

I chose to remove my 2009 resonator mounting bracket from beneath. It is attached at two points with, if I remember, T-27 screws. One can then just pull the mounting ball from beneath the resonator. This is as opposed to Jetfuel's removing the ball assembly; I could not figure that one out. As it turns out, there is a plastic, flexible cover (why?) over the upper nut to the assembly, not visible from, well, anywhere.
From that point, I was unable to do anything else (no clearance) without first jacking the car, removing the left rear tire and plastic wheel well and ultimately the air box, through the wheel well.
One genuine Grade A, USDA inspected PITA.

..say what?...the ball assy stayed with the metal bracket...I removed the whole bracket assy with the ball locking device still attached to the top of it, which allows the box to move backwards and then be lifted in the front and out she comes..

jetfuel...ball still attached...

Fair enough, I misunderstood your past post: We performed the same procedure in taking the bracket out.
To remove the resonator, though, I did find it necessary to remove the airbox first, to enable room to tilt the resonator to just clear the engine bay.
Again, I'm not too sure why I just did not cut the thing out, ala Panda, to save time.
I can not imagine a situation where I'm putting the resonator back in, (unless, of course, we move to California).

I can see what you are saying but have you forgotten the old saying, time is money. Has anyone found out a price for a standard replacement (old type that is easier to refit). This part might be really cheap so might not be worth the hassle trying to save it

Buying parts from a MB dealership cheap, Are you out'a touch with reality or wearing rose colored glasses?
The resonator box is not that hard to remove!

Yeah. I'd sell my 2009 (resonator, not car) for $10, but charge you $100 to install the damned thing, not counting bandages.

I think Kane was referring to the "old style" "08 versions - people are probably throwing them away. Would be an easy replacement on an '09.
