Barney O...Low budget no copy
How much hp gain from removing the vent hose (assume the opening would have to be closed off also.) ?

Not a clue

Jwight, This will be a debateable issue "like forever!"As many have followed the various threads on SCOA about different CAI's and along with all the arguements there still will be no clear choice. The only snow ball's chance in hell would be to take all the CAI's and send them to an independant testing facility. Even if that were to happen it would be very difficult to repeat the exact same conditions to give each CAI a fair evaluation.
Overall some of the testimonial H.P. gains I find to be a bit outlandish. For example, 7hp would be a 10% gain for the little 3 popper, that's serious improvement. We usually had to dig alot deeper just to find 2 or 3 % on our race engines. Maybe these CAI designer's would share their theory as to why the vent hose needs to be where it is.Lord knows I lobbied against it's current position.
Who knows, maybe that's why Hendrix won the championship there feeding their crankcase vent hose in front of the carb!

Best Regards, Barney O...If Forge or some company were to design a hose like the first design or one pictured earlier without the nipple on it I would be placing an order.

Enh... Just did mine this evening in the driveway (*finally!*)... It took all of 25 minutes. I got the upside-down "problem bolt" on the lower right corner out with a 4mm hex wrench, as my T30 Torx L-wrench is in another tool box several hundred miles away.

First test-ride results: Definitely a difference in the pick-up with the Loud Pedal pushed to the floor, not very noticable difference in intake sound level. We'll see how it shakes out over time.

I have a working road-trip coming up this weekend to Wesleyan University in central Connecticut; probably 750 miles or so. We'll see how the Big Blue Toob affects the fuel economy; if other folks' 1.5% (or is it 1.5 mpg?) increase in fuel economy holds true, I'll be a happilicious camper, in addition to helping Kane out.

(truth be told, even if it was a flat even trade with the OEM job's performance, I'd still be happy I helped Kane out.)

Hello, first post here

Does anyone know if there are any "gotcha's" in this application on a 2010 model (or if Smart accidently helped us with making the resonator box easier to remove)?

The resonator on the 2009 -2010 (haven't seen one on a 2011 yet) is not easier to remove than an '08.

Thankfully I have an '08! I'm looking for a bit more HP since I am installing the Daystar with either 175/65/15 or 185/65/15 all around. This seems like a reasonably simple mod, and it has the added benefit of making the air filter easier to access (it's a total PITA with the OEM intake.... I guess you get better at it, but wow, that sucked....)

So, I'll be ordering a Forge in blue.....

If you jack the car up, remove the driver side rear wheel and remove the arch liner you should have a lot less problems removing the TIK and resonators.
