Got the filter, ordered this pipe today. We'll probably pass it on the way to the UK.

Makes sense to me too, my order went in today. Hope shipping doesn't turn out to be more that the part!

I have been testing a design of mine for a few months so I thought I'd appear and stick my rather large "engineering" oar into the proceedings, add another option and mix things up a bit

Firstly, lets look at the design, they are both the same shape. Sorry to tell you guys but it's the WRONG shape.

Imagine how slow a NASCAR race would be if instead of having 2 long sweeping bends, you had 4 right angles.Same with running on a running track. Same applies to the flow of air.
If you force air around a right angle, you create a bad turbulence and it will slow the flow of air. Air wants to flow as straight as possible and doesn't do cornering as well as you might think. In a tight corner it will hit the sides causing all manner of flow restrictions.

So, being an engineer and understanding basic physics (and wanting to create a product that is superior to everything else because us smart owners deserve it). I give to you my design.

Evil 451 TIK by Forge

The design speaks for itself. It's a 4 ply construction made by Forge Motorsport, the fitment is perfect and this is one of 4 products I have designed for Forge that they now sell. This is the first thing I have had them make for the 451 NA.

Currently, including the P&P, my design works out to be about 1 buck more expensive but I am on to Forge UK about having this part listed on the USA site so you might see a bit more knocked off the price.

Unlike the other companies touting their wares, I have no interest in how many of these Forge sell. I don't get any money from them so I have no ulterior motive for recommending this design apart from it being one of mine. I got my one for free so I'm happy and Forge get a product to sell so they are happy.

So, if you are in the market for such a pipe, all I ask is you give this one a thought. If you have any questions, please ask, I'll try my best to answer them.
We're obviously at the mercy of the stock air box design in all of these applications. I'd like to see the development of an exterior mounted air filter, attached to straight hose-- and maybe one 22 or 45 degree connection. (A V-twin filter assembly might work just fine with proper R and D.)

My humble opinion, of course...

That's the crank case breather pipe.

Very interesting to hear. I doubt that ratio would need scaling if the ID of the elbow was the same as the ID of the straight pipe. So in essence, all the other TIK pipes available have nearly 60 feet of unnecessary airflow resistance built in as standard. I'll add that snippet of info later.

Agreed, I did some computer modelling during the design stage and it is amazing how narrow and compressed the airflow gets during and just after the right angles. Good video, I'll add that to my site later.

Thanks for the great feedback so far, I can imagine a lot of people (ie, companies) thinking "why didn't we think of that". Well, I'm glad to say the design is protected so hands off my design

I have to admit that I haven't had it dyno'd, physics dictates is will be better than standard or any of the other offerings so I'm happy, I'm not worried about how much better. I'll leave that up to anyone who wishes to try.
I've never held much favour with the accuracy of rolling road dynos.

I did notice an increase in mpg but I can't attribute it to the pipe simply because I have no hard data to back it up. Again, I'll leave it to you to test.
It's the best there is and cannot be improved, it's the smoothest transition from the standard air box to the throttle body. Yes, the design is about 10% longer than others but many times less restrictive.

The more that Forge sell, the better I look to them, the more open they are to my new designs. By the time you get the diesel and turbo version of the 451 I will have sorted the pipes out for those too.

Keep the questions and comments coming.

What are you working on for the ED - that's the one we're getting.

lol but the EGR is exhaust gas recirculator, what goes through that pipe isn't exhaust gas. it's a burnt oil vapour pipe from the crank case.

So on this occasion, I say potato, you say carrot

We'd exhausted that answer about six months ago. No flux capacitors, chromed battery cables, or multi-colo(u)red charging plug covers in the works?
