I am working with one of our supporting vendors to bring to market a sound attenuation solution for the Smart Car.
It is a sound attenuation barrier that covers the rear cargo area and the engine firewall behind the seats. It is held to the car’s carpeting by Velcro fasteners.
Here are the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) noise reduction specs measured in a Smart with a Remus exhaust and a Smart Performance cold air intake:
Inside the gray vinyl covering of the sound barrier is the secret to it's sound-deadening performance: it's a half-inch thick loaded vinyl mass “floating” barrier, a composite product that has been engineered to block and reflect high energy, low frequency road noise, and airborne sound, across a wide frequency range. This state-of-the-art material is manufactured by Cascade Audio Engineering.
Little Tex here likes it because it protects his bottom from the engine heat. Mom likes it because it protects the carpet from Tex's slobber and fur.
Here is a picture of the production version being sold by Smart Madness:
Ha Ha, I had the Breathless first, it was too loud for me, then came the DTH and it sounds like I have an exhaust leak where the bend connects with springs, next I am going to try the Solo Twin Tip.
