GENIUS Cold Air Intake Review and Installation

Finally got my cold air intake. This particular one is build by Matt from Geniusparts.com

Installed it last weekend and what a difference! I can feel that car accelerates and shifts faster.
My old setup is BPP Sport exhaust and BPP powerflow air filter.

It took me about an hour to install the intake and that is counting time I was taking photos.

You will need following tools for removing stock air box and installing CAI.
1. Torx T-30 Screwdriver / ratchet tool
2. Flat screwdriver
3. 10mm wrench

.

.

Received everything nicely packed. Every piece was separately wrapped in bubble wrap.

.

.

.

Assembling CAI is very simple (just follow the instructions included with the Intake)

As you can see from the photos, build quality is exceptional.

Instructions on how to remove stock air box is very vague.
So here is my Step by Step.

1.

2.

3.

Move the hose to the side and you will see the third clamp.

4.

Now you can remove Air Box cover. You can see my BPP Powerflow there.

5.

6.

This one is tricky. I used ratchet tool below to remove it.

7.

Unsnap two plastic hose holders and unplug vacuum hose.

8.

Now you can remove the baffle box.

9.

.

10.

Now you can pull air box out of the engine bay. Pack everything and store it in the safe place, just in case if you would need to go stock in the future.

Here is how the install of the actual intake went.

1.

Slide intake filter first. Instructions very clear on that, but it took me few minutes to figure out correct angle to fit intake between transmission and firewall.

2.

Next you will need to install silicone sleeve. You will need 10mm wrench.

3.

Connect CAI to the throttle body. Attach Intake to the engine with supplied bolt and washers (instructions is very clear about that).
I know that Bill (aka Wdhitch) did have some problems with that bolt, but mine is correct size and I installed it without any problems.

4. Tighten all the bolts and clamps, reconnect vacuum hose and you done!

Now I need GENIUS sticker.

Do not loose your stock bolts.

Cold Air Intake cost $290 shipped form GENIUSPARTS.COM (supporting vendor). Definitely performance increase. It SHOULD be MPG increase too, but I do not have it for very long time. I will drive it more tomorrow and check MPG and Air Intake Temperature with Scangauge II.

I would be weary of installing this in the climate in the Pacific Northwest. Sometimes the streets look like rivers up here for weeks at a time!

All joking aside, do you think it would pick up any highway moisture and would it be enough during a heavy down pour to hydro-lock the engine?

We have pretty heavy rains here in Florida too!
Filter sitting exactly 12" from the ground, I just measure it. Might be inch or two lower depending how heavy are you, or if you have lowering springs installed. To get filter in the water you would need to submerge your doors and exhaust first. Filter very nicely tucked in above the rear axle, and especially with a rain shield on, there is would be very hard for any water to get to it.
