I saw them at CES

Yes....I saw them at CES earlier this year in Vegas. They were giving away free hats and prizes when you swipe your ID badge and then spin the wheel (a very cute young lady also conducted the drawing). I actually won an orange hat.

What is the gist of this? Well here I am, looking at this cute girl handing out prizes for 5 minutes and not once did ANYONE from the booth say anything about this product, how it works, how much it costs.

But I can say that they did draw a lot of attention from passerby. Perhaps it was the colorful booth itself. Perhaps it was the prizes. Perhaps it was the cute girl. I doubt it was because they had a product that actually save gas.

That is NOT a US EPA Environment Testing Laboratory, but some for-hire private small lab in California! Big difference. To improperly suggest the US Government somehow tested and validated this is pretty good indication of the shabby nature of this enterprise.

Going further, none of the other three reports are institutional reports (backed by the mentioned institutions), but individual short reports (very short without any testing methodology or raw data) by individuals that seem employed at those organizations (moonlighting?).

In layman terms, that means not a single of those reports is INDEPENDENT.

Actually that was my mistake and NOT theirs ;) The link goes to the California Environmental Engineering (CEE) which IS an EPA-recognized and CARB-Certified mobile source emissions laboratory! Sorry for the confusion, link has been fixed.

Here is a fleet owner that has used the device. Here is another, and another. There are personal testimonials here. There is a dyno test located here.

The unit is 229.00. If the unit saves you 10-15% and gas costs 5.00 a gallon then you would save around 2.00 per fill-up which would mean you would have to fill-up 100 times to break even. In some cars that's fine, but in the Smart it might take you a while to achieve What concerns me the most is that there is no 'money back' guarantee that I could see.

CES was amazing. I did see a black Smart there in the Auto Tech building. That's where they had this fuel saver.

The Smart was decked out. At the time, I completely ignored it. I had no idea one would sit in my garage 3 months later.

Yes CES is always amazing. Just wish they still had it in the summer in Chicago.

They have great deep dish pizza there, but I digress

I love the test report by Dr. Dingle... there's a disclaimer that states "the testing procedure was undefined for this test"

Basically saying they got 22% better economy when the item was installed, but there was no control over other factors. Maybe they drove the car at 90 MPH in a head wind when they didn't have the unit installed, and 55 with a tail wind with it installed... got the results for the report anyway...

Come on? Is anyone really giving this credence? Just do some thinking for a second. This item retails for $230. Lets say there is a 20% markup and assume their cost is $200. Why wouldn't any of the big automakers being installing these wonder gizmos on all their vehicles? a 15-20% in effeciency would be huge. Equivalent to many of the mild hybrids out there. Why spend thousands on a hybrid system when for only $200 they could do the same thing? Simple, It's complete and utter BS.

Oh I don't know... it might have something to do with the patents? ;)

We will see... Put-up or Shut-up

I called "Moletech", got a message that they would return my call.
They did the following day.

I apprised them of my education and background. He talked of gains, savings, etc, I stopped him and said, I am apprehensive but open minded.

I asked;
Have their head engineer email or call me. I will be asking tough engineering questions. If I am convinced, I have time and money to participate. IF this is a scam or 'Blue sky", don't waste his or my time.

I will report.
