ham radio?

Hi:

Just a simple question. Any advice from the smart buddies? I was happy with CB,
but impressed with the number of folks who took the extra step. It really has been fun since 2007.

Thank you for all replies.

There is no ground plane on a non-metal car. This makes tuning the SWR a beyocth. The below comes from Firestik. They are mostly a CB company, but the ground plane issue still applies with the smart. As far as HAM radio is concerned, you might want to look into a FM handheld radio with an external mic option.

some light reading:
Do I need a no-ground-plane antenna?

Hi MachVegas and jwight:

Thank you for both for being buddies and sharing from the SCOA library. I didn't know ham information was on this forum.

The reason why I asked was because of a new vehicle (always keeping smartie).

A good group of FJ's, however loyalty here. Thanks gents.

Hi gents:

As a sidenote, I ended up purchasing Cobra 75 WX ST 40-channel CB radio. The antenna is a 4' Firestik.

Thank you again smartie brothers.

Uhf / Vhf ham band Antennas are easy on the Smart.

Remember, you have a steel frame under the body panels and radio frequency waves up to a about a Gh will never see the plastic cover.

A good ground plane is already in place on the Smart. Easy Mounting for small ants can be had through the front or rear tow hook hole.

Tune your system with a good VSWR meter. (like a Bird) . 73s. A2Jack.
