I just started working on the prototype for a new hayabusa conversion kit, but it's gonna be a little bit before it's done.

I am doing my first one from scratch in February, If all goes well, and there is enough interest, I will offer a bolt in kit for the Smart 451 . I will be posting pictures also!

why bother?

i read on the net there is a MR2 engine going into a smart over there somewhere, and it's a much better fit and sits much lower in the chassis than a bike engine and retains a car style gearbox, so no chain to lube lol

and that engine turboed would go nicely!

anyway, your in the USA why want a jap bike engine (other than the power and reliability) i'd love to see a big twin stuffed in the back instead... and immagine the sound!

I'm with you on this. I originally wanted to do the motorcycle engine, until I spoke with Chickenfeet about his difficulties and noise levels while driving. I also came across the MR2 engine swap. Like you said, it looks like it fits nicely. These are pics of the N/A MR2 engine. I haven't done any research yet, but I would like to see if the mercedes C230K engine can fit in the back of a 451.

The problem with his isn't the busa motor setup, it's the kit he bought from overseas. Like anything, if there is bad workmanship, your gonna have problems.

I like the busa motor because it's fairly cheap, is built to be ran hard pretty much all the time, runs on pump gas, is lighter, has the transmission built into the motor which can take the abuse, and in stock form will smoke a corvette any day of the week, let alone with a little motor work or a turbo.

Plus, the kick is just amazing from the busa motor, nothing you swap into the smart will throw you back into your seat as hard, IMO.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread because if I keep my smart beyond the factory maintenance period, I will definitely look into a busa swap (or whatever people have figured out by that time).
