Several threads on similar systems; if it sounds too good to be true....

Search on "hydrogen" and a few interesting titles show up:

http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/for...light=hydrogen

water4gas

browns gas/HHO. Does it work?

Hydro 4000

HHO Powered?

Is the search feature - in this case - really that difficult?

Since this thread has all the other threads...I will post here.

This, fortunately (or unfortunately for some) is good to be true. The whole hydrogen boosting technology has been validated by our friends from Ford Research Lab. Perhaps this 2003-01-0631 SAE article might help:

Hydrogen Ic Engine Boosting Performance and Nox Study

It was also presented at the 2003 SAE World Congress in Michigan.

If the credentials of FRL are in doubt, perhaps this article by Sandia National Laboratories, Combustion Research Facility might be more helpful:

ScienceDirect - International Journal of Hydrogen Energy : The hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine: a technical review

This technology however is still in its infancy.

If anyone needs a PDF copy, just shoot me a PM.

Vince, maybe I should have said "if a production ready, cost effective system sounds to good to be true..."

Wasn't ready to fork over the bucks to read those reports but did notice this from the Ford guys:

Quote:
Ford Scientific Research Laboratory has continued its Hd2ICE system investigation, conducting dynamometer engine-boosting experiments utilizing a 2.0 L Zetec engine (with compression ratios of 14.5:1 and 12.5:1), and a 2.3L Duratec HE-4 engine (with a compression ratio of 12.2:1) with boosted manifold air pressure up to 200 kPa.
Not quite ready for today's low compression, normally aspirated engines if I read that correctly. I would say "..in it's infancy" is more than true and the systems for sale today, not decades from now, are questionable at best. Just my .02.

It takes more energy to split off the hydrogen molecules that you can regain by burning the hydrogen. Basic physics. They're a scam.

Cheers,

Johnny

Vince - your articles appear to be for hydrogen engines. They'd be great if we had hydrogen infrastructure available for fueling these vehicles, but even then - the internal combustion process is inherently very lossy, ignoring even the energy-in versus energy-out issue for producing hydrogen. Fuel cells will be the future of hydrogen with much closer to 100% conversion than the internal combustion process for extracting mechanical energy.

The original post was for another hydrogen boost for a normal gasoline engine. I have yet to see anyone provide anything more than anecdotal proof that the augmentation does anything above and beyond what one could accomplish with water injection. I'd love to see good evidence on efficiencies and underlying theories on the improvement such as boosted burn efficiencies or leaner mixtures from true atomization of the hydrogen fuel.

I consider the boosters to be snake oil until I see otherwise anything more than anecdotal evidence.
