Why can't/won't they make the cold air intake with a silicone tube or a metal tube insulated with silicone? That would seem to make more sense than a bare (ok powdercoated) metal tube exposed to the engine compartment's heat.

Great news. I'm doing my smart 1 part at a time, this sounds like it should come next. BTW, I've got the latest version #3, (I think) of the DTH dual, center exhaust and I really like it over version 1, and 2. Madness, here I come...

Update!! I took my Smartie on a little trip last Sunday. I hit I-95 south and soon found myself cruising at 70 mph with a front and rear GAURD car,(speed protectors). My need to test the TURBOTUBE got the better of me. Let preface this by telling you I have occasionally "checked" how fast my car would actually go,the best to date was 82 mph. she has a little over 3000 miles on her. Anyhoo, with about a mile between my "bumpers" I dropped the hammer, acceleration began, the G forces were amazing, speed climbed, very shortly I hit the 90 mph mark at the 6000 rpm redline. Before the auto engine limiter kicked in I got off of the pedal an brought her back down to 70 again. The car remained tottally control able all of the time. The difference this time was the acceleration was quicker and constant proving the TURBOTUBE was doing its thing. I believe the engine breathes better, hence more power and acceleration. Still training for the DRAGON!!! CHEERZ, SmartChip

UH, do you really think you'll hit 90 mph doing the Dragon?
