Glad you like it!

The Silicone Hose we offer has several advantages over the "other tube".

1. The Silicone Hose is very durable and has very high heat resistance. A stainless Steel pipe soaks up more heat than a Silicone hose. The Cooler the incoming air, the better.

2. The Silicone Hose is a one piece solution that is durable and flexible and was specifically molded for the smart. No extra adapters, couplings or etc.

3. The Silicone Hose makes it very, very easy to change the filter since it is very flexible.

4. The Silicone Hose has a smooth inner side for non obstructed airflow.

5. Durability wise... This hose is designed to handle 5-10 times the amount of power the smart car ever put out. So, you never have to worry about how well the hose will hold up.

6. Lastly...It is also $70 less!

Please don't get me wrong...

The other product looks like a very good, quality piece and would probably do the same thing as the Silicone Hose we offer. It will get a bit hotter since it is Stainless Steel, but the temperature difference should not be that big. If it was less than the hose we offer I can see on why someone would want one, but it is almost 2x the price of the Silicone Hose we offer it makes me wonder why someone would choose it over our solution.

Possibly showing my ignorance here.... Is there really much advantage to "the hose" on the intake side without doing something on the exhaust side? I was thinking about the hose since I already have an aFe filter, but I think I might wait until I decide which center exit exhaust is quiet enough and durable enough to warrant $500. The new 'quiet' exhaust with dB readings comparable to stock looks interesting, but it appears to have no flex connector and that seems to doom smart exhausts to failure.

Any thoughts on the value of the hose upgrade without an improved exhaust?

I don't really mind the colour, and I'd suspect that having to order and stock two separate colours would increase the cost to SmartMadness, which would ultimately increase the selling price. If it makes you feel better, the similar hoses available from Schnell for Porsche airboxes are also red.

You are correct Padawan,

We now stock over 570 items for the smart and having everything in stock is a huge expense. With so many items in stock and more in development we really have to watch it. Right now the funds go out as fast as they come in. Sometimes faster! :-)

So far we have had a total of 3 requests for Black. I think yours is one of the three. We'd love to give other color options, but there has to be enough demand. If we can get enough (25-30) folks that want one in Black then we can probably have a batch made.

Right now we only have Red available. I have to tell you.... It looks pretty good in the engine bay! :-)

The hose will help! It is one of the least expensive mods you can do besides a good air filter. Combine the hose with a filter and a side scoop for best results.

In regards to an exhaust.... You mention that you want a flex on an exhaust. Have you seen the new line of SOLO exhaust systems we just introduced?

A full double wall 6" Stainless Steel Flex, longer resonator/muffler for reduced exhaust noise and a choice of a single oval or a dual tip design.

Thanks for your patience on the scoop Tim.

Hope you like the new toys! ;-) Video? Cool! In the video make sure you give us an overview of your smart. I am sure people would want to see all you custom stuff.

Thanks for the info. I have been watching the new Solos you introduced and I do like the addition of the flex pipe. It looks like a good unit and it is available in the style I'm looking for, but my car is a long distance commuter and I am still concerned with noise. I've been waiting for some owner feedback and dB readings compared with stock before buying. I've been waiting a year for the after market to work out the bugs and deliver a center exit not much louder than stock, so a little longer won't hurt. The wife is in a 'smart' frame of mind, so hopefully, there will be some results soon.
