Increasing performance without noise increase??

I've been surfing the threads and feel like a n00b, but if I don't ask I won't learn. What can I do to increase my Smart performance that won't increase the noise of the car? Can I assume the ECU flash and upgrade filters are relatively quiet, but the exhaust options will make the car louder? Advise appreciated.

Your best bet will be the Breathless Performance or the air intake system from Smart Madness Home Page and doing an ECU remap, IMO.

I've wondered the same thing. What about the CES Performance Exhaust Stealth Attack Design? Is its stealthy quality appearance alone, or is it more quiet than the other performance exhausts? Or is it just the nature of reducing exhaust back pressure that the result is more sound level?

Someone posted on the forums his BPP Stealth Exhaust was just as loud as the dual center ones.

I am the culprit with the STEALTH exhaust and it is VERY LOUD!! If I did not use my car for business, I would be happy to keep it bc I love to see the expression on people's faces as they imagine I might have a turbo...NOT!!!

I placed a sheet of Dynamat under the rear carpet and no big change in sound. the exhaust is invisible, hence the stealth, but it sounds exactly like the dual center exhaust for $100 less and it weighs a few pounds less too. And I didn't want to cut my rear valance.

I have it for sale in Marketplace section and looking for something else that is stealth and not so LOUD!! I believe "Baby Benz" gave me a good idea that I might borrow.

PEACE to all I hope that I added some insight...

I should mention - I did notice a slight increase in noise when I installed the new intake system. Definitely not as much as the exhaust - but it made it sound meaner

Simple, he's gonna mod the side exit DTH into a stealth. Today I had an idea to mod my BPP stealth exhaust and ordered a SUPERTRAPP exhaust tip diffuser pack from SummitRacing.com since it comes in black and looks unusual, I don't think anybody will know what it is even if they see under the valance. It says it offers some sound control so I will post results when it arrives.

Here is the SUPERTRAPP link in anyone is interested SuperTrapp: Performance Exhaust

Ditto, especially at higher rpm
