lowering springs

Anyone installed or thinking of installing the eibach lowering springs?

...wondering what the ride quality is like with these (obviously firmer) and if there is any issues with rubbing.

Ditto. Might help the nose diving during shifts!

Just lowering the car isn't going to cut it for autocross type stuff. The shocks are too soft, too. It looks like there is a healthy aftermarket in Europe for suspension parts. Bilstein has shocks.

I am most definitely installing the Eibach springs. It will be done as soon as I get my car. I can't stand how high the car sits and plus I love the look of tastefully lowered vehicles. Another plus is I read you can acheive a 20% reduction in drag by lowering your car and adding a front splitter. I will be adding the splitter and also vortex generators on rear top.

Vendor sources for these mods?

Lowring your car won't reduce drag, the frontal area is still the same and i'm not convinced a splitter will do a great deal although it will do a little bit.

As for the vortex generators, they should be filed under the same heading as fuel magnets.

It's all in this thread here, including my source for drag reduction by lowering

http://clubsmartcar.com/index.php?sh...4726&hl=vortex

And to he who said lowering a vehicle does not reduce drag you are incorrect. I don't really need to go into the history of auto racing, but just to summerize this is why race cars are as low as they can go. Any air passing underneath the turbulent undercarriage increases drag.

On the drag, hmmmmm, a good tastefully done, tail/roof wing will get rid of some of the suction drag on the back of the car. Maybe some ground effects too will help.

The smart has a very smooth flat bottom panel, covers at least 75% under the car.
20 % reduction in Cd just lowering the car + front splitter sounds unrealistic.

Sorry, my bad....the source said "20 points", whatever that is. I mistakenly remembered it as percentage. Here's the quote from the above link:

"reading my March 07 copy of Hot Rod I found a report on some windtunnel testing for a slatflats car. it also had some basic tips and tricks of what you can do to your car for improvments, they tested the moon discs and they were good for a 2-4 count reduction in Cd. Lowering the ride height can be good for up to 20 count reduction and a straight air dam off the front of the car could be good for a 20 count reduction and 50% less lift. If someone wanted they could test some mods on a scale model to check changes in Cd, but you would need a mini wind tunnel"
