Yes the rear would. In fact, I would want to use 4 SS lines on the smart fortwo.

donny, if we meet in person you will know that this is not my first day of modding a car. Yes, all my other cars have SS lines on 4 corners. Besides SS lines, they have have solid caliper guides not rubber ones. How about one step further? They have titanium plates on the back of the pads to prevent heat transfer from rotor/pad surface to the calipers, hence slowing the process of heating up the brake fluid.

And no I don't use EBC pads. They are horrific.

(imo, if you do the front, do the rear.
any job worth doing is worth doing right.)
(or any job, big or small, do it right or dont do it at all)
vince i hope your not 1 to only put green pads on the front and not on the rear.

I think he'll be okay. The smart has drums on the rear.

+1. Bad on the road, dangerous on the track.

No freaking way.

I am just disseminating info. I figure if TireRack carry the parts for smart, then it's official due to their presence in this industry.

If they carried the RIAL wheels in 16x7 size, I would buy it today with 204-40-16 tires all around for rotation. I know RIAL also makes 16" wheels as does Kosei that I had on my 2nd Miata. So I am not sure why they are not available.

Brake line pressure is usually similar for front and rear brakes, "yes" the rear brakes only do a small % of the braking and the amount of friction generated is less for the rears do to the lower work load.
Rear drums usually use very small hydraulic pistons to reduce force applied.
In some cases steel braided lines help a little to get better brake pedal feel but the difference may be hard to feel unless you subconciously convinced your self that they work better.
I use them for my autocross car but can't tell the difference.
Hopefully TireRack will sell more products for the smart soon, I would like to see Hawk HPS and HP+ pads, Bilstein dampers, Koni dampers, adjustable spring perches, sway bars, more wheel selection and some more performance oriented tires and snow tires sized for the smart.

Actually, most cars with mixed brake types have something called a proportioning valve somewhere in the lines so that the brakes will receive the proper pressure in a balanced manner.
