so...
its been 2 weeks now, actually only 1 week, (vacation) that ive had my turbo. i purchased the
www.smart-turbochargers.com , the kit is well made and only a few parts. it does require a compedent mechanic to do the install. i have the skill and was going to do it but jack jumped in and offered his help just to insure i was able to do it. the install went quite smoothly, pulling the oil pan was no big feat. i have a drill press and taps so that part was easy.
jack offered to throw a twist on my dt stg2 muffler flange and still it has a nice deeper than stock sound but not to loud.
i found it definetly different to drive. the low end is a push back in the seat feeling. mid range is definetly more peppy, almost gigily! and on the freeway, slip it into 4th and it actually feels proper when passing. im looking forward to a little warmer weather to pull my tent trailer up and down the hills here, 0-6500ft. i think this will be quite a improvement.
i did notice the lag in shift is much more pronounced, due to the accelleration improvement, then the normal lag to shift, then a improved acceration response into the next gear. it has the forward/back rocking motion again. im getting more used to driving it now and either in the auto mode or manual and its becomming easier to shift smoother, its the pedal and timing issue.
i was even able to goose it a couple times along side a mini, 3rd gear and about 3,500 rpm.
i have a test hill here and it went from stock- floored in 4th, holding mph to turbo- accelerating (slowly) up in 5th. its not a hot rod but that isnt what i was looking for. overall i think that jacks kit is 1 HELL of a improvement over stock with a minimal exspense.
my wife said i drive like mr toads wild ride.
kinda like a E ticket, if you remember those.
heres a pic of the end result, sorry its not perfect.
