I posted the videos yet he was arguing the pts as if I work for DTH or 4smart and that by posting the videos, which I found by chance on youtube, was not being dishonest???

I have seen a lot of confusing WTFs. This currently tops my list.

Sorry Lowndex, indeed the videos were posted by Vince.

Vince, if a simple error like that on tops your list, then you are apparently easily impressionable. No wonder then that, when a vendor says a cat-back will give +30% torque from 2300 to 2700 rpm – and zero % afterwards, you have no problem with that statement…

Yesterday, I had the breathless performance exhaust installed on my smart. The noise is appreaciably louder. Even though I did not dyno test it, I can say without equivocation that it has made the car drive much better. Off the line acceleration is noticeably faster, shifts are much smoother without the huge lag between gears. I took about 5 or 6 smart owners, who had driven to Dania Fl from up to 200 miles away for test drives after the mod. Every single one of them commented on the increased performance, whether driving as we would in the city (slow and crawl) vs. flooring it down a straitaway. If Ernie from breathless had more exhausts in stock, he would have sold at least 4-5 more systems.

The only downside, for me, is that it is louder than I thought it would be and I would definitely go with the "touring" version. I am older, so the need for loud mufflers is not as great as it was in the old days.

Also, every single one of those corvettes, at Ernies, sounded louder and certainly could blow my doors off, just standing still. That being said, most of those corvettes, at ernies, were not the type of car I would drive on a dailey basis, nitrous costs too much and I would be afraid some jerk at Home Depot would ding my doors.

Guess the message to my ramblings is that I like the added HP (whether percieved or not) and our typical mildly modified smarts will never outrun a yaris.

By the way, I am certainly not bashing DTH products. This dyno above, + 3 TQ, + 3HP is much more in line with what a well engineered cat-back such as theirs or Breathless' may offer on a 71 HP engine.

When I think of all the endless discussions on my last forum about objective proof that the performance mods did what they were supposed to, I always relied on my "butt-dyno". I understand the importance and need to objectify, but to me - if the car feels better and the price is acceptable, then $ were well spent. Thanks for the review and yet further input that I personally need to hold off for a quieter exhaust.

BTW, I certainly am no expert, but after going through the same modding experience for the SRT8 (a brand new car with brand new mods surfacing every month by countless vendors), I learned that dynos were not the end-all proof to determining how effective the modification was, because of the variance of reports from vendor to vendor and owner to owner.

OK, Now I'm really confused, a couple of posts back you claimed no improvement, now your showing the original DTH dyno graph and talking about +3 improvement. Your changing your story depending on what your trying to prove. If you go back and check out the original thread from DTH, you will note that they tell you the gain is in the 2500-3000rpm range. They tell you they were not looking for max power gains but improved drivability down low.

That's the problem with so many people, all they want to talk about is peak. 99.9% of the world NEVER drives at peak. Unless you are building a drag car, peak is IRRELEVANT. Me personally, I'm glad to see a company like DTH focusing on DRIVEABLITY rather than peak. Give me grunt down low, Americans drive torque not hp.

DTM Center Exhaust Installed

I bought a DTM Center Exhaust from 4smartcar.com and it is quieter than the single DTM. I can talk on the phone now in my Cabrio. Top up of course

The service at 4smartcar.com was amazing and I will be doing more business with them.

If it gives a difference in performance while actually driving the car, who cares about the exact numbers?

As I have said, the single tip mod is my goal.

I remain hopeful DTH can deliver an exhaust baffle insert which will reduce the exhaust note with less than 0.5 hp loss. Anytime you stuff something up your exhaust, back pressure results and hp is lost. So, I will wait a little longer.

If all else fails, I plan to order the dual tip from 4smartcar and sell my single tip cheap.
