Just received my gauge:

Waiting for one more part. And hopefully I can READ something useful this weekend!

Plus it will not work on the G&K 450 Smarts.

Just have to get a OBD chip to "talk" to the car via the OBD2 port. I did just that in my race car using the chip from ELM.

Now if you want a system that can read BOTH OBD2, sensors that ECU read and sensors that you have installed, you need more than a Scan gauge-like device. You need a data logging system (how does sampling rate 100hz sound?), that has a CANBUS ability and communicates with a HMI, preferably touchable screen. I did just that as well in my race car. The screen shots below are from an earlier prototype. Of course, the version I have now is fancier.
Check out DashDAQ Series II - customizable OBD2 gauges, data logging, dianostics, and GPS Navigation. A bit pricey, but I put one in my Smart - works perfectly and I love the data logging mode and the christmas tree for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times!

I would really be interested in this. Let us know how it goes, and tell us how you did it.

Ouch! you weren't kidding about pricey. Does look pretty neat though.

This replaces the dash clock?

Sorry for my ignorance, but will this gauge fit into the space the current dashboard clock occupies? Is there where youa re mounting your cool, new gauge?

What do reviews say about the accuracy?

That was the brand I was thinking of! Thanks for posting!

Yes I did look into that unit. I think the customizable display is very neat. I believe Panasonic had a head unit that is very similar as well.

Two things that compelled me to build mine however:

1) DashDAQ doesn't control devices. It's a monitoring/logging system but not a control system. No PID feedback loop per se. For instance, if temp approaches x, initiate I/C spray for y seconds.

2) It doesn't allow me to enter mathematical eqns. For instance the Steinhart Hart eqn parameters for thermistors.

Either way, I am glad that you like it. Post some pics for all to share.

Hey, no need to apologize for anything!

The pod we have has a diameter of ~60mm. SPA sells only 52mm. Depth is about 37mm. It will fit into the pod though I am not doing it. For now, I quite like the clock and have plans for another other gauge. This 52mm SPA stands alone. I will post an update in my other thread in the afternoon.

Btw, most gauges are either 52mm or 60mm. Some tachometers are 80mm. Pardon the metric units. I am imperial-unit-cally challenged.

New to the site and looking for info on installing coolant temp and oil pressure gauges, preferably on the A-pillar in a pod format. Most info on site is over two years old. Anything new to report on gauges, which ones, where to get them, and best way to install?
