Is there an easy way to hold the rubberized carpet thingy up out of the way while taking out the metal cover to check the oil? Mine has a plastic hook on the right side that looks like it should attach into the cavity on the right but the hook seems to be on backwards.

Yes, at first glance it does appear to be on backerds. However, when you place that backerds hook into the hole and hook it, it will stay...
