I'd like to know if I can drill and screw into the tridion cell? I have a tandem bike that only weighs 30 lbs, I'd love to be able to carry it on my smarty instead of the Outback...
I can just imagine the looks we'll get with the bike only a few inches shorter than the car!
Just get a Yakima rack setup for it, no drilling needed. A set of "Q" towers, 2 sets of #116 clips and a pair of crossbars gets you started and will carry up to 100lbs. on the Smart. Lots of bike, ski kayak and pod options from there. figure around $300 for the basic system with locks for the towers plus whatever bike mount you pick.

Is this tandem pure titanium or do you and the stoker stand 5'2" in shoes? ;-)

I use the Yakima Rack for my Tandem on my Toyota Matrix and when I get my smart car I want to be able to carry my tandem too. ( and it is a Ti ). What is the basis for your recommendation? It sounds like you have experience with a rack and a smart car. I know there are several others smarties interested in this set up too.
Regards
I see that Yakima just added info for their racks on a smart car! this is great, I just need to buy the clips, and I am set.

Reason: new info
I spoke with my dealership yesterday and was told that they are getting roof racks in a couple of weeks instead of the back mount ones. I wonder if they are like the ones I've seen on this forum. They are coming from Smart and less expensive he said. Anyone else here about this?

Sounds like a "No No" to me.

probably mounts on the sides above the doors so that there is no pressure on the glass roof (Passion) or metal roof panel itself (Pure). if so, this may work on the Cabriolet as well if the side rails are left in place while the top is either open or completely down.
"Warning!
No racks or loads may be secured to the roof of the vehicle as:
-the panorama roof* may be damaged, thus injuring persons.
-this can have a substantial adverse effect on the driving dynamics of the vehicle, thus causing accidents.
-the rack and/or load could detach and through this cause an accident or other people could be injured by the load and/or rack that has fallen off."
I believe that is legal speak for "NO ROOF RACKS"
