Scangauge/Ipod/phone holder prototype

This is what I have come up with for a Scan Gauge holder. It is only in the prototype phase so please keep the laughter to a minimum

The base will slide into either one of the two recievers on the passenger side down by the cigerette lighter, it will be held in place with little allen screws or thumb screws if I can find them that small. From there it will be mounted to 8 inches or so of rubber coated flexible gooseneck tubing like on a bendy desk lamp... you will be able to move it around but it will be stiff enough to keep itself in place. The mount is made of mild steel with little rubber caps, you just bend the tabs to fit and that's it, you can take the gadget its holding in and out as many times as you like.

I am thinking about doing a mount for the Scan Gauge and for maybe 3 more things. What should those things be? Ipod, BlackBerry, Iphone???

Is there a market for this type of thing?? Speak up, suggestions welcome!

The whole thing is billo's idea from www.itibitismart.com Thank's for the idea Bill!

Thanks,
Matt

Would nylon thumbscrews work well?

(I'm a happy occasional customer of smallparts.com)

I thought the smart branded items that went into those receptors had clips associated with them.

Well there is a market for using those accessory holder. Smart has failed us in coming up with a reason to have them. Who needs a CD Holder?

Thanks John,
I think those will work great.
That's a pretty cool website too, I'm glad to find out about it.

The plastic clip like on the Smart accessories was my first plan but getting the pieces injection molded was a pretty big deal to have done.

Good Idea

I like it. I've never found a place to mount my SGII that I liked so it sits in the glove box most of the time.

Regards,

Dan

Like Dan, my Scangauge has spent a lot of time in the glove compartment too. I think I would probably order one.

My Scangauge sits on the dash near the windshield but I wouldn't mind a place to park my MP3 and phone.

I'm dreaming of a support for my scangauge that will position it just below my line of sight (down the road) on top of the speedometer pod. It would be elevated so the top of the steeringwheel would not block the display. A kind of plop on top approach. I would feel much safer not having to look down in front of the radio knob where it resides now. Pretty may have to come later, safety first.

+1 That mount idea is very cool but in my opinion way too low. Dash mount would be better.
