Scanguage alternative? Clock pod mounted?

I seem to remember seeing someone with a scanguage type device mounted in the pod that holds the clock. Was this for the 450 or 451? Does anybody remember this?

450 only. From the FAQ:
"Why isn't the X-Gauge compatible with smart® models after 2006 (fortwo 451)?

Starting with model year 2007 (fortwo 451), smart® has changed to a newly mandated OBD protocol (CAN-Bus) that the X-Gauge has not implemented. In addition, the clock pod itself is different and will not accommodate the PCB of the current X-Gauge hardware." http://www.welte-engineering.ch/index.html

Yep! Did you check out the owner's photos? A lot of them had three pods, instead of just replacing the clock with the guage. And, some of those 'standard' pods looked a lot better than the OEM stuff. But, $270 USD for the gauge, and not for the 451.

X-Gauge. Yep, it's real sweet. Sorry you can't have one though.

Just saw a 2" tach at Harbor Freight flyer with different LED's to match vehicle's instrument colors. I believe it was 19.95. It works with 4,6 and 8 cylinder engined cars.
Can one fool the tach and make it work correctly with the six cylinder setting by adding some sort of reader that converts to 3 cylinders? It's an inexpensive solution...
