the mirror (glass) needs to be removed first, and then there are two clips (that are VERY) fragile that can be released. Going back together is almost more challenging.... Good Luck!

to add on.....

There are actually four clips but the two on the top you don't really notice. The bottom clips - the outboard one is pretty easy, you will need a small fine screwdriver to pop the clip undone. The inboard one is buried in there pretty far, look very closely and you'll see it. This is the one I broke the first time I pulled my mirror caps off.

I didn't find reassembly too difficult though I've hear it is from others. I fed the top clips in first then made sure the bottoms clips were in the beveled portion that goes towards the hole they should belong in - once they are in position just give it a good firm slap like you would slap your wife . It'll pop right in.

I never tried it while it was on the car because I was doing a panel removal at the same time. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, that means it'll work. Just more bending over depending on how tall you are.

So you just wedge something in between the panels and pop the caps off? Like the Pods?
